HOW it started…

After my studies and moving from sweden back to germany, I decided to change my trusty VW Passat for something else. The Passat was awesome, spacious and it shredded miles on the highway. However, it was boring.

At that time my brother was working at the local Volvo Dealer and drove a V50 T5 AWD. I still remember the first drive I had with his car and I knew pretty instantaneous that this was going to be my next car.

It was spacious enough for my family, more compact than the Passat, it has the beautiful Volvo 5-pot and as a car designer, the exterior strongly resonated with me. On the left you can see a pic in 2020 after I picked it up.

The Peg’s were a very lucky local find.

How it went…

On the left side you can see V-Link v0.1. Being a kid from the 90s an growing up with “Need For Speed Underground” and “Fast and the Furious” I was heavily inspired by the extra gauges you could find in many tuning cars of that time.

However, I’m a designer, and I despited the idea to install cheap aftermarket gauges on my beautiful Volvo. So I activated my dead braincells and got to work. The pic on the right was taken in 2022. Crazy that 3 years have passed since I started this project.

Where we are…

2025 marks 5 years of Volvo ownership for me. I fell in love with their cars and honestly can’t think of another car that I’d rather have. (Ok no… there are a few, but that’s not the point)

Now, with the help of some awesome people (Tigo, Max, Rhys, just to name a few) I feel that the project is taking the shape of an actual product.

Most of the bugs have been solved and the setup is working reliable for a bunch of people already. I never studied Electrical Engineering, nor do I have a background in programming. This project is the result of chasing an idea and using everything I know to make it real.

The future looks bright and the more people are joining our community, the better it will get!

Thanks for being a part of the journey. 🙂
